Speakers Series presents "Marketing, ethics, and you"
WHAT: The University of Illinois Springfield Engaged Citizenship Common Experience (ECCE) Speakers Series presents an interactive discussion entitled “Marketing, ethics, and you”. The event will be led by Jorge Villegas, assistant professor of Business Administration at UIS.
WHEN: Wed., June 15, 2011 at 7 p.m.
WHERE: Brookens Auditorium, located on the lower level of Brookens Library
DETAILS: As consumers, we have increasing levels of control on how we interact with marketers, media, and each other. If a product that we acquire does not meet our expectations due to misleading advertising or shoddy quality we post a scathing review on our Facebook wall or on Amazon. In a short amount of time, we can wreak havoc on a company’s reputation and reject its marketing efforts.
In this new world, companies that aim to thrive need to behave transparently, ethically, and responsibly. Years ago these concepts were seen as a public relations façade; now companies are developing their full marketing strategy based on their drive to engage the market ethically and responsibly.
Villegas holds a Ph.D. in Advertising from the University of Texas at Austin. He researches advertising and has published several articles.
